According to this thread here, the current limit on the number of Friends you can have is 750. As soon as you reach 500 Friends on your list, you get a link on your Userinfo page leading you to a differently-styled page to view such a large list. Unfortunately, this code is currently broken; however, users with large friends lists report still being able to manage their list.
