Can I do anything to help stop my journal from ending up on search engines?

To show that there's no DEFINITE way to stop spidering, but you can do things that will help.

Comment timestamps, FAQ #156 and S2

It's my non-supporthelp opinion that FAQ #156 should not be referenced in an answer to a request from an S2 user such as this one, while the FAQ specifically states that comment time stamps are GMT -7/8.

While I respect the wishes of various people as to not supplying S2-specific information in the FAQ, I would ask that 156 be made more style system-neutral. Thoughts?

Edit 20:43: I wasn't going to mention this request originally as I wrote an answer to it, but it's all the more relevant now because the user noticed the deficiency in the FAQ.

About lj_docadmin

So you've probably seen my comments about the "Super Secret FAQ Editors Community". In all honesty, I mean that as a joke. The "Super Secret Community" is lj_docadmin, and it's a closed community for people with the faqedit priv. All posts there are Members-only, so unless you have access, there's probably no reason for you to Friend it.

Sometimes we (the FAQ editors) need to discuss things without input from lj_userdoc at large, and a single community is much easier to keep up with than scattered e-mails.

An analogy! lj_docadmin:lj_userdoc::lj_supportadmin:lj_support

Don't worry, the existence of this community won't really affect the way lj_userdoc runs: all FAQ proposals and changes will still go through this community.

If you've got questions about this in particular, feel free to comment.

Update Run!

I guess it's my turn to do the Update Run, because, like, lyspeth has been doing it since, like, before the beginning of time, like, like. So here it is.

[lj_userdoc]
A new FAQ was added, "What is the policy on account trading? Why should I not accept a traded account?", FAQ166, used mainly for Abuse.

[lj_userdoc] * [ lj_userdoc] * [lj_userdoc] * [lj_support]
The FAQ "What is a cluster? What cluster is my account stored on?" (FAQ167) is added.

[lj_userdoc]
FAQ24 was clarified in regards to who can see an entry if you post it to more than one friends group.

[lj_userdoc]
FAQ133 renamed from "How do I set my default text encoding?" to "Why are some of my characters appearing as question marks? How do I set my default text encoding?"

[lj_userdoc]
FAQ6 renamed from "How do I add images to my journal entries?" to "How do I add images to my journal entries or user bio?" and some general cleanup.

[lj_userdoc]
FAQ47, the memories FAQ. A sentence was added to the end of the second paragraph describing that keywords and memory categories are the same.

[lj_userdoc]
FAQ25, the rename FAQ, was updated to say that you also have an option to keep/drop your Friends list. The /rename/ page requires a patch at the moment, so that wasn't changed.

[lj_userdoc]
FAQ148 updated to include the restriction on what characters are permitted in a username.

[lj_userdoc]
FAQ18 updated to say that you need to be validated to change your password.

Anything after that last post is still awaiting the 48-hours for discussion. I believe lyspeth is still working on her linkage-suggestion posts.

New FAQ suggestion: "What is S2? How does it affect my journal?"

Further to my previous (first!) post, which accidentally resurrected a heated debate on the wider issue of referring to S2 in the FAQ (my fault for not reading back through the MonthPage, sorry), I'd like to propose a catch-all, "interim" FAQ, that addresses all of the common questions people may have about S2:

Took me ages to even write it up as a comment, so I'm just copying and pasting with a few slight modifications. I'll make alterations to this entry as recommended.

I await the inevitable dozen-plus comments debating this further with glee.
