S2 userdoc flood, part 2

* Changed 168, "What is Style System 2 (S2)? How can I use it on my journal?", into "How do I switch my journal between S1 and S2?" Moved it into Customization from S2.

* Added in Customization: {173} What is the difference between S1 and S2? Which should I use?

S2 userdoc flood III: The Search For Sense (Finalizing the S1 Category)

* Added in S1: {174} Why has my overrides box disappeared?
Collapse )

* Moved to S1 from Paid Accounts: {128} "How do I make a custom style?" & renamed to "How do I make a custom S1 style?" Replaced "style" with "S1 style" in text of FAQ. Rewrote second paragraph:

* Moved to Customization from Paid Accounts: {14} "Why can't I use JavaScript or Flash in my styles?" & renamed to "Why can't I use JavaScript or Flash in my customization or entries?" Text of FAQ changed to include "entries" along with styles.

* Re-ordered S1 category to the following (final, unless anyone has better suggestions):

S2 FAQs #4: The new S2 category re-ordered, and a rewrite of one of the new FAQs.

* Rearranged the new (and old) S2 FAQs to the following order:
Collapse )

* Renamed 171 to "Which options are currently supported by each public S2 layout?". Go read the text, because it's too big to copy here. (Yes, I messed up the title on that one the first time around -- I forgot about 145.)

PLEASE, please, please look over that FAQ and see if there are any discrepancies between both lists, and if there are any missing features in each layout. I checked the list twice, and very carefully, but I'm only human. Likewise, I'm virtually certain that I have all the paid-only benefits flagged, but I may have missed some.

Posting this now so you all (well, those of you who are still up) can look over that list and catch any errors. Moving on:

Proposal for new FAQ: Making S2 layers publicly viewable

Since we're (at last!) adding S2-specific FAQs, I'd like to propose one based on ruakh's lj_style post of two months ago: making S2 layout/language/user layers publicly viewable.

This would be an insanely useful FAQ to point users to when support volunteers get round to diagnosing users' layer mess-ups, at least until S2 equivalents of see_overrides.bml and /styles/browse/ are implemented.

Edit 12:56: Here's an alternative and perhaps preferable solution.

Proposed New S1 FAQ

Now that we have different FAQs for S1 and S2, I propose we need a new FAQ on how to modify the colors of your layout using the S1 style system.

Also, the paragraph in FAQ 7 that says you can modify the colors at modify.bml needs to be deleted.

How do I modify the colors of my journal?
The easiest way to modify the colors of your journal layout is through the modify journal page (http://www.livejournal.com/modify.bml). You can select from several predefined color schemes or customize your journal by using hexadecimal color codes.

A list of hexadecimal color codes can be fount at http://goathack.livejournal.org:8055/docs/color_codes.html.

A guide explaining how to use these color codes to modify your journal can be found at http://goathack.livejournal.org:8055/docs/usageguide.html.

You can also change the colors of individual journal entries using the HTML tags <font> and <span>. Instructions on how to use these tags can be found in the HowTo journal at http://www.livejournal.com/users/howto/24298.html.

S2 userdoc changes: part 6

And now, we pick it back up 12 hours later and do the following.

* Several minor tweaks of phrasing as suggested in comments here and there.

* New S2 FAQ as suggested by jc: "My friends' comment pages are displaying in different styles. How do I change this?", slightly altered from proposed text to fit the reading-level guidelines.

* Rewrote FAQ14 -- the number shows how early it was, it's never gotten much love. Text partially from jc.

* Made the following changes to non-Customization FAQs to cover documenting S2 issues:
