FAQ 17, lostinfo.bml

The information contained in FAQ 17 and on the Lost Information Page says that you can only have a password sent to a validated address. This is not currently true -- you can actually have your password sent to any previously validated e-mail address, or to the e-mail address currently registered with the account, whether or not it is validated. rahaeli and I discussed it, and came to the conclusion that the documentation should be updated to reflect this fact.

Therefore, I am proposing the following changes:

FAQ 17

Change paragraph 2 to read:

For security reasons, LiveJournal will only send your password to the email address currently entered in the Personal Information for your account, or to an email address that has been previously validated for use with the account. If you no longer have access to the currently registered email address or to any previously validated email address, you will not be able to recover your username or password.

Change the first sentence of paragraph 4 to read:

If you are unable to regain access to your account because you have forgotten your username or password and no longer have access to the email address currently registered with the account or to any previously validated address, you may wish to create a new journal.

Lost Information Page

Change the first paragraph to read:

If you've lost your password, enter your username and optionally, the email address you'd like the password sent to. If you leave the email field blank, the password will be mailed to the address currently entered in the Personal Information for your account. If you specify an email address, it can be either the currently registered address, or any address you have previously validated for use with your LiveJournal account.
