Any email message may travel through any number of servers after it is sent, and there is no guarantee that any of those servers will pass the message along immediately. Also, email servers may be affected by factors which also affect the Internet at large, such as viruses, worms, and malicious attacks. LiveJournal endeavors to send all email messages in a prompt manner, and delays are typically outside LiveJournal control.
