I am new to the documentation side of the LJ so I don't know who actually edits the FAQs. However, my own confusion about how to configure posting via e-mail and my subsequent support request made me think this FAQ entry needs some more text. The FAQ entry is at: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=187
My support request is at: http://www.livejournal.com/support/see_request.bml?id=318439
Actually, what I think should really be changed is the text here: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/emailpost.bml?mode=help&type=advanced where it says 'If you specify "PGP" as your PIN..." That is what confused me as I went back to configure my post-by-email settings trying to set my PIN to "PGP", which of course wasn't allowed as it was under 4 letters. If the text were changed to simply this:
If you specify "PGP" as your PIN in the To: line of the e-mail address...or
If you specify "PGP" as the PIN in the recipient for your e-mail as shown below...that might have saved me all the trouble. For the actual FAQ #187, my suggestion would be that below the paragraph that begins "If you would like to use your PGP or GPG public key for authentication,..." a new paragraph be inserted along the lines of:
Note that when using PGP or GPG to post by e-mail, you still need to configure a PIN in http://www.livejournal.com/manage/emailpost.bml but you will not need to use the PIN for posting.or something like that... my wordsmithing skills are not at their best at the moment (need another cup of tea!).
On a different note, at the very botttom of the FAQ, it says that instructions on how to post via PGP/GPG are found at http://www.livejournal.com/manage/emailpost.bml?mode=help#pgp when in fact they are found at: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/emailpost.bml?mode=help&type=advanced
Other thoughts or comments? (And how does the FAQ actually get updated?)
Thanks,
Dan
