FAQ 96, "How do I change what my comment links say?"

Both Paid and Free Accounts have the ability to customize what their comment links say. Paid Accounts can make this change in either style system, with any layout; Free Accounts can make this change in the S1 style system, and in certain layouts in the S2 style system.

Any account type can use override codes to change the text of comment links in S1. Override codes are to be pasted into the "Style Overrides" box at the bottom of the Modify Journal page (http://www.livejournal.com/modify.bml). Comment link override codes can be found in the Comments Link - Changing Text Of memory category of the HowTo journal. The override codes you should use depend on which journal style you are using. Be sure to select the proper codes for the layout you are using.

Paid Accounts also have the option of creating or copying a style, and editing the TALK_LINKS and TALK_READLINK variables within that style. Information on creating a custom S1 style can be found at http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=128

In the S2 style system, the ability to change comment link text is only available to Paid Accounts. Free accounts cannot make this customization in S2.

For layouts that directly support this customization, the text of comment links can be changed through the Customization Wizard. These layouts are listed in the S2HowTo journal at http://www.livejournal.com/community/s2howto/10552.html Information on customizing the options of an S2 layout can be found at http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=170.

For layouts that do not directly support this customization, or for more advanced customization options, Paid Accounts can also create a custom Theme Layer that contains additional customization. Information on using a Theme Layer is available in the S2HowTo journal, at http://www.livejournal.com/community/s2howto/25272.html
