FAQ Updates & Changes

Tonight's apparent goal: To stamp out comma splices and their evil cousins, runon sentences!

The following minor changes have been made to FAQs to smooth out phrasings, fix typos, and/or correct grammatical problems:

http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=108:
Edited to explicitly link to the "What do you consider to be hateful?" FAQ in paragraph 1.

http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=105:

"Constant refresh will contribute" --> "Constantly hitting Refresh contributes"

http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=74:
"Usually we stay ahead of demand but sometimes there is a huge surge of signups or our vendors are slow getting us new machines and the site slows down for a few days." --> "Usually we stay ahead of demand, but sometimes there is a huge surge of signups or our vendors are slow getting us new machines, and the site slows down for a few days."
"When you login" --> "When you log in"
"Note that there is no special URL to access the fast servers... the site's load balancer does it automatically for you." --> "There's no special URL to access the fast servers. The site's load balancer does it automatically for you."
(my 'net connection freaked out while editing this FAQ; apologies for the multiple edits)

http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=90:
"giving users, who have paid, an unlimited amount." --> "while paid users may have an unlimited amount."

There is no other way to join a community, and there are no LiveJournal rules to define what an owner may or may not set as their requirements for membership."
"Or, equivalently, you can edit your list of Friends as explained at http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=61" --> "Alternately, you can edit your list of Friends (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=61)"

http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=77:

All of the above changes have been marked as "Typo (no notify)" for translators.

The following minor phrasing changes have been made, to bring the FAQs in line with the latest site changes or to make instructions more explicit:

http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=19:
Added: "Once you change your email address, you will need to re-validate it. If you don't receive an email to re-validate your address, see "How do I get validated? It says I'm currently not validated!" (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=11)"

http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=85:
"There is also a specific community search page that goes along with our directory, but since our directory isn't functioning at this time, no search results will be available. When our directory is functioning again, you can try the search community page at : http://livejournal.com/community/search.bml" --> "There is also a specific community search page that is part of the LiveJournal directory, but though the directory search is available for users with paid accounts, the community search does not function properly yet. When it does function, it will be available at http://www.livejournal.com/community/search.bml"

http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=76:
Added after "If you're allowed to post to a community, you should see the name of that community in the scroll box provided.": "You may need to quit your client and open it again, in order for it to list a community that you have just joined."

http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75:
"with an icon linking" --> "with a 'head' icon that links"
"with an icon linking" --> "with a 'compass' icon that links"

All of the above changes have been marked as "Minor (notify translators)" for translators.
